SPORTING BUTTONS
Sporting buttons are generally from the late 18th century through most of the 19th century. Commonly worn on jackets of men riding to hounds before hunts, they were also later worn on country clothing for riding or shooting. The metal buttons were usually in sets with several related designs.

GOOFIES/REALISTICS
Goofies got their name in the early 1940's for their realistic depiction of the object. Generally in plastic or glass, the pictured sets of bonnet goofies are made from glass from the 1940's.

CELLULOID
The elaborate floral wreath buttons below are made from celluloid, one of the first plastics created. From the 1940's, these realistic buttons were designed to be cheery to lighten people's spirits during the Depression.
