Round Top 2013

Twice a year hundreds of vendors descend on tiny Round Top, Texas for a giant antiques fair and GB was right there with them.  Round Top is actually a fair that spans several small Texas towns in the area.  You can find all manner of things from European furniture to strange doll collections.  Here are just a few glimpses into what a trip to Round Top is like:

There are some pretty interesting booths...

But we've always loved the bazaar.

This is but one of the massive fields that house the many vendors of Round Top.

Spools and buttons, of course!
A favorite find were these cut steel shoe buckles. We often use these in our Buckle Up Collection

One of our missions while in Texas was to replenish our stores of antique initial buttons, and we were successful!  As you know, the initial charms are some of our most loved pieces.  These buttons are unusually hard to find.  We scour all of our go to resources to find these for you guys (and our Round Top resource will remain a secret ;) ) Mixed in with these letters you can also find buttons from uniforms.  Initials like WH would have gone on a White House uniform, or FD would have been for the Fire Department.

     The finished product.

One of the interesting things about this antiques fair is that it is far removed from any large city or even a large town.  There aren’t really any hotels.  Because of this we ended up staying in a small cabin on a farm in the nearby town of New Ulm, TX.  The owner very nicely gave us a tour and introduced us to all of their animals.  Our favorite was her new “Oreo” calf.  He was a little skittish, but adorable all the same.

They also raise long horns on their small farm.  They were quite comfortable with humans and walked right up to us!
Not only do they have a calf and long horns, but also some very curious donkeys and a goat!
All in all it was a very successful and fun trip to Round Top and we can’t wait to return!
