Museum Monday / 2

Happy Monday!

This week's Museum Monday we are featuring Ivoroids. These buttons consist of thin sheets of celluloid stamped and tinted to resemble carved ivory.  Ivoroid buttons from the Victorian era are difficult to find and are considered scarce by button collectors, especially in the larger sizes pictured here.

The scenes in our Ivoroid buttons:
1. Flora and the Hind, the story of the enchanted hind (red deer) who was transformed into a princess each night.

2. Sarah Lennox at Holland House, Reynold's painting of Sarah Lennox is probably the inspiration for this stunning button.

3. Lucy and Edgar, the two young lovers separated by family objections, from The Bride of Lammermoor by Sir Walter Scott.
