This week's Museum Monday features a playful piece of history: the buttons string. Often called 'memory strings', these were created by young girls as they traded buttons with one another. Personal buttons were never included, only ones that were given or traded. As tale has it a girl would collect 999 buttons, in hopes that the 1,000th button would be given by her prince charming. Whether the tale worked out or not, the years of trading created a beautiful way to display a collection.
VERY interesting & neat!!
