  2. Why do I love Grandmother's Buttons? How much time do you have? I treasure items with history, from ancient family photographs and my great grandmother's tea cups to antique furniture and old homes. It's hard to carry most pieces of history around, but Grandmother's Buttons enables me to wear an exquisite piece of history every day. I am also touched by beautiful art, and every piece of GB jewelry has layers of art. First there's the vintage item each piece is centered around. Whether it's a tiny Victorian button bearing the image of a Gothic building or a cut steel shoe buckle faceted to sparkle like diamonds, each item had a craftsman whose artwork is retained in what they surely would be astounded to know lived well beyond notions to be center stage in charming, unique jewelry. That art is built upon by the jewelry designers at Grandmother's Buttons, who come up with imaginative and delightful uses to showcase the notions of yesteryear in the jewelry of today. Beyond the jewelry aesthetics lies the Grandmother's Buttons building, which is like a sliver of wonderland right down the street. The architectural details of soaring ceilings, arched windows, rich woodwork, and chandeliers jeweled with their own dangling crystals envelope you with their craftsmanship and history. One can imagine going back 100 years, dashing under the cover of the enchanting catty-corner entry and entering the old bank through the heavy double doors, immediately being wrapped in the warmth from the carved, tiled fireplaces and the friendly greeting from the teller, who knows all the customers' names. But what do we get that most of those customers didn't get? Access to the vault! Talk about history and art! The vault doors exhibit a pride in craftsmanship too rarely seen today. These are the interiors of doors that were only to be seen by a handful of people, but their magnificent detail is available to us every day. And the treasures within the vault... some of them sparkle, others amuse, and still others bewilder, but all of them delight. From the rare and wonderful George Washington Inaugural to a tiny Bakelite banana, buttons abound! But the vault is not limited to buttons. All manner of notions and other ordinary pieces of everyday life in ages past are on display in the vault and about the shop. The family history is hard to miss, too, as Susan recognizes some of the incredible women she had to admire and model in life. And that brings me to my final point: Susan and her business. Susan has made Grandmother's Buttons more than a business. She and Donnie strongly support their community and are great examples for their employees, particularly showing their younger workers how an idea and dream can build to success -- and how to treat your employees when it does. Susan is a wonderful ambassador for West Feliciana as she travels the country and the world to promote the business and shop for new-old finds for her customers. I have hit the highlights of what I love about Grandmother's Buttons, and I sing those praises whenever I can to anyone who will listen!

  5. I have loved Grandmother's Buttons from the moment I saw it. The building is an exquisite piece of Louisiana's unique history. And, when I walk in the door, I connect immediately with the creative energy in the air. It's rare and wonderful to see a small town store with a big world view. Every piece in the store is a work of art that I want, need or must have. I cannot visit Saint Francisville without a trip to see my friends at Grandmother's Buttons.

  10. Going to Grandmothers Buttons is like therapy for me! It brings back so many memories of when my daughter was young and we spent so much time going to St Francisville together. Of course going to Grandmothers Buttons was a must! I love the bldg and the history of the bldg. The people that work there are always so pleasant especially Susan. She always has a smile on her face! They sell wonderful gifts and gorgeous jewelry that is made upstairs, not many people know this. The store is very unique and is not cluttered and you can view everything with no trouble, has a clean look. I can go anytime and know that I will see something different and unique. Some stores I have visited look the same every time but not Grandmothers Buttons. They also gift wrap free which is a big plus. I always get compliments on my piece of jewelry and I am happy to tell them where I bought it. I enjoy their sale in December during Christmas in the Country. The jewelry is affordable and something that can be passed down. I love antiques and can only think that over time the pieces will be more valuable. Not your ordinary humdrum piece of jewelry! Hope Grandmothers Buttons is around for a very long time. So glad that Susan was inspired to open this wonderful store and that I live close enough to shop there.

  11. I love Grandmother's Buttons for a number of reasons. Love the story behind Susan decided to launch this business, love that it has grown so exponentially over the years due to her open, creative spirit and her care for quality and art, love that she uses found objects to create her pieces (upcycling, right?), and love that the final product is so amazingly beautiful AND while having the appearance of an antique piece, it works so well with contemporary wear. I REALLY need a new piece to wear to my son's wedding in Austin in October, so I'm crossing my fingers. Love you guys!!! The absolute best to you and your's.

  17. I don't own anything from Grandmother's Buttons but I do love the look of your jewelry. It's definitely different & one of your designers is like my own daughter *winking* @ Joanna. I love that you use REAL vintage things in your jewelry.

  18. I feel extra special when wearing Grandmother's Buttons' jewelry. How wonderful that Susan has been able to rescue hundreds and hundreds of elements from days gone by. And then to know she and her staff lovingly make these gorgeous items on site to share with her customers makes it all just perfect. The stories behind these vintage pieces are so interesting and I enjoy passing on what I've learned when someone asks about a piece that I'm wearing. The building GB is housed in is a treat to visit. And the "presentation" of the jewelry is like nothing you'll find elsewhere. Just thinking about GMB makes me smile.

  19. I love Grandmother's Buttons because the line reminds me of my wonderful grandmother. I first learned of Grandmother's Buttons while visiting my Grandmother, Juanita Harrington, who was living in a nursing home near St. Fransicville, Louisiana. I live in North Carolina. Several years after my grandmother passed away, I decided to start my own store. The influence of my grandmother is reflected throughout my store. The jewelry line I knew I must carry was Grandmother's Buttons.

  20. I love the vintage, feminine classic beauty of the designs created by Grandmothers Buttons. Truly a boutique for the woman who embraces her feminity,
in a modern society with a reflection to the past. A trip to St. Francisville is not complete unless you've visited their beautiful store
    housed in a historical landmark.
